Gorges of Todra (TODGHA)
The valley Gorges of Todra (or Todgha) extends over fifty kilometers along its wadi in an enchanting oasis, to form around Tinghir Todra Gorge, the most spectacular gorges of Morocco to visit in travel in southern Morocco.
While walking in the heart of the oasis valleys of southern Morocco you will encounter breathtaking landscapes of canyons and gorges. The Todra gorges are the most spectacular. They begin after the palm grove of Tineghir, many excursions are possible in the Todra Gorge.

The Todra valley stretches between the High Atlas in the north and the Jebel Saghro in the south, to get lost in the Sahara desert. This arid and rocky land is dotted with green oases where almond trees, pomegranate trees, peach trees, olive trees and fig trees grow
Don’t miss to visit the forty or so ancient kasbahs that line this road of southern Morocco. They remind us of the time when sedentary and nomadic tribes used to clash. 15km from Tineghir, the Todra Gorge offers travelers many opportunities for walking, hiking and climbing.
Excursions Todra Gorge
Before arriving at the Todra Gorges, at the exit of Tinghir you will find a spring called “the spring of the sacred fish”. Leave your vehicle to walk up the gorges that reach in some places 300 meters high. A few tens of minutes of walking will be enough to reach the heart of the gorges.
If you like hiking, take a mule track that goes up above the gorges, offering beautiful views of Tinghir and the palm grove. From there, another path leads down to the village of Tizgui, completing a hike of about 3 hours. For this excursion it is advisable to take a guide.
If you continue the path at the bottom of the gorge, you will reach the starting point of the hikes and climbs. It is a very popular place for climbers with its 300 meter high walls. In the surroundings, you will be able to go to the Dadès and the valley of the roses and to make a superb excursion.
After the passage of the gorges, the Todra valley goes up towards the summits of the High Atlas by a succession of passages more beautiful the ones than the others. If you have a 4X4 vehicle, you can climb by a track to Tamtatouchte. From there, a beautiful excursion in 4X4 will take you to the heart of the Dades valley. Continue in the direction of M’Semrir, you will cross a mineral landscape until the pass of Aguerd N’Zegzdoun (2600m). Follow the road down to the bottom of the Dades gorges, to Boumalne Dades in 1 hour (60km).
From the valley of M’semrir and the village of Agoudal, you can also go north towards the village of Imilchil, towards the high nomadic plateaus (2200m) and the valley of Anergui. It takes about 6 hours of driving, but you will cross the Atlas in its wildest part. Discover by the track the gorges of the Assif Melloul separating the High Atlas from the Middle Atlas. And finish your trip in an ecolodge in front of the Anergui cirque
Continuing to the southeast to join the dunes of Merzouga, you can then make an excursion on camelback and camp at the feet of the erg Chebbi, the highest Moroccan dunes.
Access and practical information
The Todra valley is located about 180 km from Ouarzazate and 160 km from Erfoud.
To take full advantage of the excursions in the gorges, we advise you to rent a 4×4.
