This 5-day route is a great choice if you arrive in Casablanca and want to finish your trip in Marrakech while visiting some of Morocco’s most important places along the way. It combines imperial cities, the Middle Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, Todra Gorge, Dades Valley, Ait Ben Haddou, and the High Atlas Mountains in one private journey.
Instead of returning to Casablanca, this tour follows a practical one-way route to Marrakech. This helps you see more of Morocco without repeating the same road.
You will visit Rabat and Fes before traveling south to Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes. This gives you a good mix of history, culture, mountain scenery, desert landscapes, and kasbahs.
You travel with your own driver and vehicle, so the pace is more comfortable. Stops for photos, viewpoints, coffee breaks, lunch, and local visits can be adjusted along the route.
One of the main highlights is the night in the Sahara Desert. You will ride camels at sunset, enjoy dinner at the camp, listen to Berber music, and wake up early for sunrise over the dunes.
This itinerary is ideal for couples, families, friends, and small groups who want to see Morocco’s main highlights in a short time, with comfortable accommodation and a well-organized route from Casablanca to Marrakech.
Your driver will meet you at Casablanca Airport, your hotel, or an agreed meeting point and welcome you at the start of your Morocco journey. Depending on your arrival time, we begin with a visit to Hassan II Mosque from the outside or inside. This impressive mosque stands beside the Atlantic Ocean and offers beautiful photo opportunities.
After Casablanca, we follow the road to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. In Rabat, you can visit the Kasbah of the Oudayas with its blue-and-white streets and ocean views, the Hassan Tower, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the resting place of King Mohammed V and members of the Moroccan royal family.
In the afternoon, we leave the coast and drive inland toward Fes. The landscape changes to green fields, small villages, and rolling hills. When we arrive in Fes, you check in at your riad or hotel in or near the old medina and have free time to relax.
Meals: Breakfast next morning
Overnight: Riad or hotel in Fes
After breakfast, we start the day with a short panoramic visit of Fes. You can see the Royal Palace gate from the outside, a viewpoint over the old medina, and some of the newer districts of the city. This is not a full guided visit of Fes, but it gives you a good first impression of one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities.
We then drive south into the Middle Atlas Mountains. The road passes Ifrane, a quiet mountain town known for its clean streets and alpine-style houses, and continues to the cedar forest near Azrou. With a bit of luck, you may see Barbary macaques living in this forest area.
The journey continues through Midelt and the wide high plateau before descending toward the palm groves of the Ziz Valley. Long stretches of date palms, villages, and old kasbahs appear along the river. We stop at viewpoints for photos and short breaks along the way.
By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. From here, you take a camel ride into the dunes during the late-day light. If you prefer not to ride a camel, we can arrange a 4×4 transfer to the camp.
At the desert camp, you are welcomed with mint tea and time to enjoy the silence of the dunes. After sunset, dinner is served, and you can relax under the stars. Many nights include traditional drums or local music after dinner.
Meals: Breakfast and dinner
Overnight: Merzouga desert camp
You can wake up early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you return by camel or 4×4 transfer to the village, where you meet your driver and start the day’s journey.
We drive through Erfoud, a town known for fossils and dates, then continue along a road lined with palm groves and small Berber villages. The landscape becomes drier and more rocky as we approach Tinghir and the Todra Gorges.
At Todra Gorges, the river has carved a deep canyon through the rock, with high cliffs rising on both sides. You have time to walk between the canyon walls, take photos, and enjoy the cooler air of the gorge.
In the afternoon, we continue toward Dades Valley. This valley is known for its red rock formations, old kasbahs, and houses built along the river. We can stop at viewpoints to see the “monkey fingers” rock formations and the curves of the mountain road.
You arrive at your hotel or guesthouse in Dades Valley, where you have dinner and a quiet evening in the mountains.
Meals: Breakfast and dinner
Overnight: Hotel or guesthouse in Dades Valley
After breakfast, we leave Dades Valley and follow the road toward Ouarzazate. Along the way, you see small Berber villages, farmland, kasbahs, and wide views of southern Morocco. Depending on timing, we can make short stops in Rose Valley or near Skoura Oasis.
We reach Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert, known for its film studios and old kasbahs. Nearby, we visit Ait Ben Haddou, a famous fortified village built from earth and stone. You can walk through its narrow alleys and climb to the top for a wide view of the area. Many famous movies and series were filmed in this region.
After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, we cross the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of Morocco’s most scenic mountain roads. The route has sharp turns, mountain villages, and panoramic viewpoints along the way.
By late afternoon or early evening, we arrive in Marrakech. Your driver takes you to your riad or hotel, where you check in and have free time to relax or explore nearby streets.
Meals: Breakfast
Overnight: Riad or hotel in Marrakech
The last day is dedicated to discovering Marrakech, known as the Red City. After breakfast, you meet a local guide, if included in your package, for a walking and driving tour of the city.
You usually visit the Koutoubia area, Bahia Palace, and parts of the old medina and souks. You walk through narrow streets filled with workshops, small shops, riads, and local life, while learning how Marrakech grew as an important trading city between the mountains and the desert.
You also pass by Jamaa El Fna square, the heart of Marrakech, known for its juice stalls, food stands, musicians, and busy street atmosphere. During the day, it is lively with locals and visitors; in the evening, it becomes even more active.
Depending on your departure time, there may be free time for shopping, a hammam, or a last mint tea on a rooftop terrace. At the agreed time, we transfer you to Marrakech Airport, the train station, or your next hotel if you are staying longer in the city.
Meals: Breakfast
Drop-off: Marrakech Airport, train station, or your next hotel
